Luca Iandoli, Ph.D., received a Best Paper Award (full paper category) from the Association for Information Systems at their virtual conference, AMCIS 2020, held from August 10 through 14.
Dr. Iandoli’s paper, “Simple as it can be, but not simpler: Perceived elegance as effective complexity in Interface Design,” coauthored with Giuseppe Zollo and Letizia Piantedosi of the University of Naples Federico II in Naples, Italy, proposes a method to measure the elegance of a digital interface and reports empirical evidence that the metric is strongly correlated with perceived elegance and actual effort in the use of a new product.
Dr. Iandoli and his coauthors bring aesthetics and art to the field of digital design and provide actionable guidelines to designers to make digital interfaces more elegant, as well as functional. The paper and the presentation are both accessible at this link.
The AMCIS conference is one of the largest conferences in information systems; the 2020 virtual conference featured more than 700 national and international submissions.
