A team of 21 students from the School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science garnered numerous awards at the 47th Annual International Conference of Gamma Iota Sigma, the only international business fraternity for students majoring in risk management, insurance and actuarial science.
The St. John’s University chapter, Alpha Iota, was recognized as a Superior Chapter, the top tier of these rankings, for the fourth consecutive year. Alpha Iota was one of only seven chapters, out of 65, to achieve this distinction.
The chapter also took home Outstanding Performance Awards for Alumni Relations, Chapter Management, Community Service, Membership Development, Public Relations, and Solutions for Authenticity, Inclusion and Diversity. In addition, the chapter was one of only three to receive a Black and Gold Award for student-created innovative programs and activities.
“We receive many of these awards every year, so this is not a new accomplishment,” said Associate Professor of Risk Management David M. Pooser, Ph.D., the chapter’s faculty advisor. “Our persistence in being ranked among the best chapters in the nation is a testament to our students’ diligence, dedication, and innovation outside the classroom.”
This year’s conference, entitled “Amplifying Disruption,” was Gamma Iota Sigma’s largest to date. Six hundred twenty-six students and advisors, representing more than 60 colleges and universities, and more than 450 industry representatives and alumni, gathered at Chicago's Navy Pier on October 4-6.
