On September 24th the College of Professional Studies hosted the 2018 LST (Liberal Studies Event). We had about 40 students (majority Freshmen) attend, who learned more about what Liberal Studies, as a Bachelor’s had to offer. They learned more about the Division of English and Speech and what it would be like to be a student in the College of Professional Studies (CPS). The event’s focus was on how to help student success and transition into a major of their choice.
Students not only enjoyed lunch with fellow students and professors, but also learned about the resources CPS has to offer.
At the event, Dr. Kathleen Marks, PhD Associate Professor of English, Division of English and Speech and Program Director for LST, welcomed the students as she discussed her own journey as an Undergraduate student, and spoke about what a Liberal Studies, B.A can provide for students’ careers. Also, addressing the student body, was Alexis Smith; the Academic Support Services Advisor, University Freshmen Center, who talked about resources for freshman concerning their academic choices. Students who attended were exposed to information that will help them develop their academic careers at the University, and enjoyed a bit of networking and lunch with faculty and administrators of CPS.
