To help fulfill the dream of a college education for the families of those who serve, St. John’s University has launched the Service Scholarship for the children of police officers, firefighters, and members of the military.
The scholarship, totaling $2,000 annually, is for four years of continuous, full-time undergraduate enrollment. It begins in the fall of 2018.
“These new scholarships are in keeping with our nearly 150-year history of service to others,” said Jorge Rodriguez, Vice Provost and Chief Enrollment Officer. “Children of our nation’s heroes who are seeking a higher education can now look to an institution as prestigious as St. John’s to assist with the affordability of college.”
To qualify for the scholarship, candidates must be dependent children of a police officer, firefighter, or member of the military who is in active, full-time service, retired, or lost in the line of duty. Applicants also must be current high school seniors planning to enroll at St. John’s in the fall of 2018.
Reflecting the University’s commitment to those who have served our country, St. John’s was recently honored with a Top 10 Military Friendly® School Gold Award from Victory Media—an organization that connects the military community to employment, education, and entrepreneurship opportunities—and a “Top School” rating from Military Advanced Education & Transition’s 2017 Guide to Colleges and Universities.
“Given what these outstanding men and women have done for our country,” Mr. Rodriguez said, “the University finds it fitting to give back to some of our bravest citizens by helping to educate their sons and daughters in the greatest city in the world.”
To be considered for this award, the admission application must be submitted on or before January 15, 2018.
