Expanded Credential Opportunity for Clinical Mental Health Graduates from Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS)

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program at St. John's University, housed in The School of Education, proudly announced that their MSEd in Clinical Mental Health Counseling curriculum was approved by the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) to meet the educational requirements for the Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor in Training (CASAC-T). The curriculum of the CMHC program was rigorously reviewed, and graduates of the CMHC MSEd program are now eligible to earn their CASAC-T upon graduation. The CASAC-T is an optional credential for counselors, which may increase job opportunities and employability upon graduation.

The Counselor Education programs at St. John's University, housed in The School of Education, have received an extension oftheir accreditation from the Commission on the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) to 2019. This accreditation extends to the School Counseling Program, School Counseling with Bilingual Extension, and the Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs. The chair of the Counselor Education department, Robert K. Eschenauer, Ph.D., worked tirelessly to achieve this accreditation with his counseling faculty team. CACREP accreditation is recognized as the highest standard of counselor education curriculum and instruction.
