On March 6, The College of Professional Studies hosted its first ever conference on Homeland Security and Cyber Security titled: “Using Scenario Building and Simulation Technologies for Educating Next Generation Homeland Security and Cyber Security Professionals”. The Conference featured a cross-section of both industry and academic experts in the field of Homeland and Cyber Security. The event included a Keynote Panel on “Cyber Security and Homeland Security Trends: An Industry and Academic Perspective”. Featured speakers included Prof. John Otero, Associate Professor and Director of the Cyber Security Program at St. John’s; Bruce Cosden, Cloud Solutions Architect from Microsoft, Kirk Smallwood, Vice President at CompTIA and James A. Gagliano, FBI (ret.) Supervisory Special Agent. The Panel was led by Jeffrey Grossmann, Associate Professor of Homeland Security, St. John’s University.
Dr. Keith Cozine, Assistant Professor of Homeland Security also presented on Game Theory in a presentation entitled: “Cyber Security and Homeland Security Trends: An Industry and Academic Perspective”. The event closed with a demonstration from ETC-ADMS (Advanced Disaster Management Simulator) (http://www.trainingfordisastermanagement.com/ from Ms. Shirley Vargas, Education Solutions Specialist from ETC.
The Event was well received from many students, faculty and staff. CPS will host a similar event next month on April 20th on the topic of Data Mining,

St. John’s University Announces Commencement 2026 Honorees
St. John’s University will hold its Undergraduate-Level Commencement Exercises on Sunday, May 18, at 10 a.m. on the Great Lawn. The Most Reverend Richard G. Henning, S.T.D., D.D. ’86SJC, ’88M.A., Archbishop of Boston, MA, will serve as this year’s speaker and be conferred an honorary degree during the ceremony.
