The event was organized by Susan M. Damiani ’87CBA, Director of the Office of Gift Planning, as a service for alumni seeking financial and estate planning advice. Guidance was offered by St. John’s University alumni.

“This seminar is important because it gives our alumni information from distinguished experts in their fields on how to plan for their financial future,” Ms. Damiani said. “It helps them to ensure that their loved ones will be provided for and their investments are secure. Plus, it is probably the only time you will receive free advice from an attorney and financial advisor.”

Professor John P. Clarke ’55CBA, ’57L, Chairman of the Department of Law, The Peter J. Tobin College of Business, moderated the panel and noted the vast experience of all three speakers. “Today we bring alumni together to give them some guidance in their estate and retirement planning. We have a very good panel with professional experts.”

James J. McTiernan ’80CBA is a financial advisor with the Bank of New York who covered retirement issues. Mary P. Giordano, Esq. ’81L focused on elder law, which includes Medicaid and long-term care planning. Finally, Kevin J. Harding, Esq. ’81L discussed testamentary and living trusts.

“As a financial planner, I know the importance of giving back to the University—not only to be charitable, but also from an estate standpoint,” said Richard Krohley ’00TCB, a member of The McCallen Society who attended the event. “When you combine the two it makes a lot of sense.”

Janet (’64CBA) and Thomas McCabe ’64CBA were there to learn more about estate planning and retirement—and have an excuse to return to the campus, where they met more than 50 years ago. “The University has a special place in our hearts,” said Mrs. McCabe.
