Recent Graduates Come Home to St. John's Law to Take Accession Oath for Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps

It was a wonderful homecoming at St. John’s Law last week when Enisa Dervisevic ’13 and Micah Pischnotte ’13 returned to the Law School to receive the accession oath and join the ranks of the Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG). Jeffrey K. Walker, Assistant Dean of Transnational Programs and Adjunct Professor of Law, administered the oath as a retiredfield-grade officer, United States Air Force.

At St. John’s, Enisa participated in the Moot Court Honor Society and the Elder Law Clinic (now the Consumer Justice for the Elderly: Litigation Clinic) to gain hands-on experience in advocacy and courtroom work. “I decided to pursue a position in the JAG when I was a 2L,” she said, adding: “I’m looking forward to gaining experience in court immediately.” Like Enisa, Micah refers to the JAG as his “dream job” and sees it as a long-term career. Hailing from an Air Force family — his father is a Colonel with more than 28 years of service — he came to law school knowing that he wanted to go into public service. He immersed himself in public interest initiatives at St. John’s, working closely with Public Interest Center director Rachel Andron to launch a chapter of the Suspension Representation Project. He also participated in a clinic, held public interest internships, and served on a journal.

Vice Dean Emeritus Andrew J. Simons, who served on active duty in the U.S. Navy, wished Enisa and Micah all the best on behalf of their proud St. John’s Law family. With the oath, the two officially commissioned as First Lieutenants, U.S. Air Force and will next go to Montgomery, AL for commissioned officer training. They will then start their JAG duties at different Air Force bases in Texas. “I wish these young officers Godspeed as they head off to serve their country,” said Dean Walker. “St. John’s Law students and alumni have a proud history of military service and, joining their ranks, Enisa and Micah continue a trend we hope will endure for years to come.”
