Steeped in a proud military tradition stretching back over 40 years, St. John's University ranks among the country's top military-friendly universities, according to Military Advancement Education Magazine’s (MAE) 2014 Guide to Military Friendly Colleges and Universities.
"This recognition is outstanding and reflect our University's Vincentian mission by affording those who served our country the opportunity for an education. I am so proud of our student veterans who take every opportunity to embrace academics, study abroad and community service opportunities," said Mary H. Pelkowski, associate dean for student engagement and advisor to the Student Veterans Association.
"It’s an honor to receive this type of recognition from a nationally known publication that is affiliated with the military" observed Charles Taylor '14CPS, president of the association.
The association assists student veterans in successfully transitioning from military service to University life through networking opportunities, resources, community service and advocacy.
Maryanne Twomey, director of institutional programs and research in the Office of Student Financial Services, said St. John’s is "dedicated to providing opportunity and an outstanding educational experience to its growing population of valued military veterans, through exceptional academic and support services and generous financial assistance."
The Guide to Military Friendly Colleges and Universities provides potential students with information about institutions that go out of their way to give back to our men and women in uniform.
"This validates all the hard work, time and effort that St. John's faculty, administrators and faculty have dedicated to serving student veterans," Taylor added. “It’s a pleasure for all of us to support St. John's efforts on behalf of our Association, which enables our student veterans to have a valid voice on campus."
