- Students Honored in Employment (SHinE) Nominations Open
The Office of Human Resources and Student Employment are pleased to announce the return of the student worker recognition award program known as SHinE, i.e., Students Honored in Employment. This award program recognizes the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who work on campus while attending college.
The 2024 nomination period runs January 29 through February 16, 2024. The nomination form will be available on the Supervising Student Workers webpage beginning on January 29; instructions will be emailed to supervisors this month.
Student workers can be nominated by their supervisors provided they meet the established eligibility criteria, which includes two, completed, consecutive semesters of employment in the student’s current department; good academic standing with a minimum grade point average of 3.0; full-time academic eligibility; and a minimum of 10 work hours per week.
Student workers may be classified as Regular or Federal Work-Study, and may be undergraduate or graduate students. Students who are participating in study abroad or an academic internship for the current semester are eligible for nomination, provided they meet the required criteria. Supervisors are asked to base nominations on established student worker core competencies.
A Selection Committee will review nominations and select up to four award recipients based on the qualities that contributed to a nominee’s exceptional performance on the job, and examples of how the nominee demonstrated excellence on the job. Attendance, punctuality, teamwork, and cooperation will also be considered.
Each award recipient will receive $500 (less applicable taxes) and an invitation to an awards ceremony and luncheon with supervisors, managers, and special guests. Semifinalists will also be invited and recognized at the luncheon, which is held during National Student Employment Week in April.
We all know that St. John’s student workers are an integral part of all our departments and offices. The SHinE award gives supervisors an opportunity to nominate their top performers for recognition. We look forward, once again, to celebrating the many ways our students SHinE while working at St. John’s.
