- Nominate an Agent of Change
This year the Office of Multicultural Affairs is proud to announce its inaugural Agent of Change Award ceremony at the 2024 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Legacy Dinner to be held on Monday, January 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the D’Angelo Center Ballroom. The Agent of Change Award recognizes St. John’s University community members for their efforts in promoting inclusion, belonging, and social justice at St. John’s University and beyond.
We invite all students, faculty, alumni, administrators, and staff to nominate other members of the University community, as well as members of the local community who exemplify the characteristics of an Agent of Change. This agent of change is someone who performs an act of kindness or a good deed that spreads by demonstrating commitment to supporting their peers, building meaningful connections, and advocating for those from historically marginalized or underrepresented backgrounds. Through doing so, they create a ripple effect.
It all starts with one person who approaches their work collaboratively to create more inclusive and equitable communities. They use their voice to speak out against issues of social injustice, have the power to motivate others, and know that speaking their truth is their main power. By speaking their truth, they create equity and inclusion as they make significant contributions to their community. Stepping into this role, this individual exhibits the characteristics of one who embraces the power of advocacy.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an agent of change who fought for what he believed in and genuinely looked out for the interests of people. He is an excellent example of what one individual can accomplish through dedication to social change. Through his work, Dr. King instilled in us his legacy to fill hearts with the love of humanity.
Selected by a committee of St. John’s University administrators and staff, the awardees will be honored and celebrated at the annual MLK Legacy Dinner. This year’s theme is “Step into the Spotlight: the Power of One.”
Registration is required to attend this ceremony.
Eligibility
All St. John’s University students, faculty, alumni, administrators, and staff can nominate members of the University and local communities—and they can also be nominated.
The selection committee will consider self-nominations for this award if the nominee also has at least one nomination from someone other than themselves.
Submit your nomination by January 12.
