St. John’s University’s Tobin Center for Executive Education is expanding its global reach through a new partnership with Conser (Consultores de Servicios Ltda.), a La Paz–based professional services firm, to deliver an executive education series for insurance professionals across Bolivia and Latin America.
The three-part virtual program, delivered in Spanish, brings together faculty and industry leaders to address emerging risks and evolving practices within the insurance sector. With two sessions already completed and a final session scheduled for May, the initiative reflects the Tobin Center’s growing role in connecting academic expertise with professionals working in fast-changing markets around the world.
The partnership builds on the strength of the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science, long recognized for its leadership in insurance education. Through the Tobin Center for Executive Education, that expertise is translated into applied learning experiences designed for professionals navigating increasingly complex risk environments.
The program has focused on topics that are especially relevant across Latin America, where exposure to climate-related events, infrastructure expansion, and economic volatility is reshaping how risk is understood and managed.
The series opened on March 25, 2026 with a session on parametric insurance, led by Germán Torres-Ortiz, CPCU, ARe, and Ana Cosachkow. The discussion explored how trigger-based insurance models are being used to respond to climate risks such as droughts, floods, and earthquakes, particularly in regions where traditional loss assessment models can be difficult to implement efficiently. As parametric solutions gain traction among insurers, governments, and development organizations, the session provided participants with a foundation for understanding how these models are structured and applied.
The second session, held on April 15, 2026 and led by Carlos Olivencia, focused on property and machinery insurance. As industrial development and infrastructure investment accelerate across the region, businesses are facing increased exposure to operational risks, including equipment breakdown and business interruption. The session examined how coverage is structured and priced, with an emphasis on practical application and real-world underwriting considerations.
Together, the sessions have emphasized not only emerging concepts, but also how those ideas translate into day-to-day decision-making for insurance professionals. Participants have engaged with frameworks and examples that reflect the realities of the markets in which they operate.
For Conser, the collaboration reflects its commitment to delivering high-quality, technically grounded education and expanding access to global perspectives for professionals across Bolivia. For the Tobin Center for Executive Education, it represents a continued investment in building partnerships that extend the University’s reach and impact beyond the United States.
The series will conclude on May 13, 2026 with a session on Data Analytics and AI led by Diego Monsalve, Head of Risk Practices and International Head of Parametric Solutions at Lockton. His discussion is expected to focus on global risk trends and advanced approaches to managing complex exposures.
The Tobin Center for Executive Education designs and delivers programs for organizations and professionals across industries, with a focus on bridging academic insight and industry practice. Partnerships like this one highlight the Center’s ability to convene international expertise and deliver content that is both globally informed and locally relevant.
