Election Day is Tuesday, November 4. In New York, to be eligible to vote in the General Election, your voter registration application must be received no later than Saturday, October 25—the same day that early voting begins in the Empire State.
In New York City, you can register to vote online, in person, or by mail.
Visit the New York City Board of Elections for information on how to register or to check your registration status.
New York State voter registration forms are available for residents throughout St. John’s University’s Queens, NY, campus, including at the Office of the Registrar and D’Angelo Center Campus Concierge and in the University Center lobby.
To register to vote in New York State, an individual must be a US citizen who is at least 18 years old and a resident of the state and county, city, or village for at least 30 days prior to the election.
The individual may not be incarcerated for a felony conviction or adjudged to be mentally unfit by a court. Lastly, the individual may not claim the right to vote elsewhere, which is important particularly for resident students at a college campus.
Eligible New Yorkers may register to vote through the state Board of Elections’ online voter registration portal; in person at their local county Board of Elections or any state agency designated as a National Voter Registration Act site (such as the Department of Motor Vehicles); or via mail. A voter can update their registration the same way.
There are several ways to vote in New York State, including in-person and early voting. Those voting by absentee ballot or military and overseas voting must adhere to specific deadlines per election.
To encourage civic participation, St. John’s held a nonpartisan voter registration drive in conjunction with National Voter Registration Day (September 15, 2025). The St. John’s University School of Law will serve as an early voting site from Saturday, October 25, through Sunday, November 2, 2025.
