Hon. Debra Ann Livingston, Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, has announced the appointment of St. John's Law alumna Sheryl Giugliano as a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of New York (EDNY). Giugliano will officially assume her judicial duties later this summer.
Currently a partner at Ruskin Moscou Faltischek P.C., Giugliano has extensive experience in bankruptcy, restructuring, and litigation. She previously worked at Diamond McCarthy LLP, Silverman Acampora LLP, and Weissman Abruzzo LLP. Outside private practice, Giugliano has served as co-chair of the EDNY Bankruptcy Local Rules Committee and as a member of the SDNY Bankruptcy Local Rules Committee. She also chaired the EDNY Bankruptcy Chapter 11 Lawyers’ Advisory Committee and co-chaired the Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Committee of the New York State Bar Association’s Federal and Commercial Litigation Section.
Reflecting on Giugliano’s appointment, Center for Bankruptcy Studies Director Laura Schwartz ’90 shares:
“I’m thrilled that another St. John’s Law graduate has been selected to join the federal bankruptcy bench. On a personal level, I’m overwhelmed with joy and pride for Sheryl. I met her almost 14 years ago when I joined the Law School’s Career Development Office (CDO). Then, Sheryl was a junior bankruptcy associate eager to assist our students through CDO’s mock interview program. Her commitment to St. John’s Law and the students has never waned. She has been a mentor to American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) Law Review students and shared her expertise in the field as an adjunct professor and as a member of the Bankruptcy Center’s advisory board. Sheryl is certain to be an exceptional jurist, and I know she will continue to make St. John’s Law proud.”
Please join us in congratulating Judge Giugliano!
