NYC - On October 31, Dr. Aleksandr V. Gevorkyan (Economics and Finance) presented his research at the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) conference. The conference’s theme of “Commodity Price Volatility and the Sustainable Development Goals” featured various presentations including Dr. Gevorkyan’s research on “Primary Commodity Exports: A conversation on economic development models”.
“In my presentation, I commented on a complex interconnection between dominant currency effects and structural economic development across primary commodity exporting low-income economies,” shared Gevorkyan. “I focus on the challenges faced by the small economies in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus. These economies are often left out of regular economic policy debates. Through my research and presentation, I draw policymakers’ attention to those nations’ macroeconomic development models.”
Dr. Gevorkyan is Henry George Chair in Economics and Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics and Finance of the Peter J. Tobin College of Business at St. John’s University. On February 10, Dr. Gevorkyan will present the next Henry George Lecture with guest economist Branko Milanovic discussing his book "Visions of Inequality."
