Deloitte and St. John’s University Host Virtual Symposium on COVID-19
April 24, 2020

More than 45 business school deans and chief risk officers participated in the second Symposium on Risk Management in Higher Education hosted by Deloitte and The Peter J. Tobin College of Business at St. John’s University.  The focus of this virtual Symposium, held on April 22, was on how business schools are responding to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and how to manage their risks while remaining resilient.

Moderated by Norean R. Sharpe, Ph.D., Dean of the Tobin College of Business, and Cynthia Vitters, Managing Director at Deloitte, the symposium’s participants shared their challenges relating to enrollment, budgets, the transition to remote learning, and planning for future semesters.  Many of the institutions shared common challenges, while others faced additional difficulties, depending on their size and location.  The benefits and drawbacks of potential strategies were shared.

The attendees agreed that it was beneficial to benchmark with other universities during this extraordinary situation. Tobin and Deloitte plan to partner again to co-host a third symposium to discuss the long-term implications of online learning for faculty training, recruitment, and retention.
