Dr Geoffrey Dick, currently a Visiting Associate Professor, teaching Information Technology and Cybersecurity courses in the Collins College of Professional Studies, was honored by the Association for Information Systems (AIS) as a Distinguished Member - Cum Laude. AIS is the premier professional association for individuals and organizations who lead the research, teaching, practice, and study of information systems worldwide. It is a global non-profit organization with members in 98 countries, grouping almost 2000 higher education institutions. AIS runs four major information systems conferences: in the Pacific (PACIS), the Americas (AMCIS) Europe (ECIS), and an international conference (ICIS) in a different region of the world each year.
The Cum Laude designation is reserved for those distinguished members who have held long-term continuous AIS membership, provided a significant level of service to the organization in a leadership role in AIS or AIS-related activity and have been published in at least four publications in an AIS or AIS-affiliated journal. Geoff has been a member for 25 years, held several leadership positions (he has three times been elected as president of the Information Systems Education group) and has published extensively in this and related areas. His most recent publication "Teaching Information Systems in the Age of Digital Disruption" is due to appear in the Journal of Information Systems Education next month - co-authored with several long-term colleagues, it suggests a new approach to teaching information systems.
In nominating Geoff for the honor, Dean Passerini wrote: "He is an exemplification of our AIS community: academically, professionally, scholarly and ethically strong, yet humble and always ready to help. I believe he would make an excellent representative of our global community, given his extensive international and US experience and his focus to serving the community well above and beyond the call." The AIS first cohort of Distinguished Members – Cum Laude will be inducted in Munich next December 15-18, 2019, at the ICIS conference.
