The St. John’s bachelor’s degree in legal studies has cracked the top five in two national rankings of legal studies degrees.  College Choice ranked the St. John’s B.S. in legal studies as third among national legal studies programs, here.  And, The Best Schools ranked the St. John’s B.S. in legal studies as fifth among national legal studies programs, here

The St. John’s legal studies program is an American Bar Association-approved paralegal studies program and functions as a de facto pre-law program.  According to Professor James Croft, the Legal Studies Program Director on St. John’s Queens Campus, “the legal studies program teaches close reading of primary legal documents, legal analysis, legal research, legal writing and legal procedure—skills which are equally applicable to law school or entry-level legal work in a law firm, court or corporate legal office.”

Graduates of the St. John’s legal studies program are employed as paralegals, legal assistants, case managers, and office managers in large and small law firms, government agencies, federal and state courts, corporate offices, insurance companies and non-profit organizations. Graduates of the Legal Studies Program also often go on to graduate school or law school.  Graduates of the St. John’s legal studies Program have been accepted at major accredited law schools, including NYU, Georgetown, George Washington, Notre Dame, Emory, Temple, Pace, Fordham, Hofstra, Brooklyn and St. John's, among others.
