A team of Peter J. Tobin College of Business accounting students from Staten Island delivered a well-received presentation at the international financial information honor society’s Best Practices national competition in Washington on Aug. 11.

The team from the Kappa Zeta chapter of Beta Alpha Psi captured a third place finish in the “Hands-On Engagement” category. Justin Blank, Michael Giudice, Stefani Grillo and Michael Jankowski advanced to the national round after winning the Atlantic Coast Regional Competition in March.

Another team of Tobin students -- Tyler Bruce, Anthony Figliozzi, Amneek Nagra and Salvatore Vecchionealso -- also presented at the competition after winning its “Branding Your Chapter" category at the regionals.

The chapter’s faculty advisor and mentor, Professor of Accountancy Benjamin Silliman, Ed.D., noted that several students came up to both teams afterwards to congratulate them for such impressive performances and to solicit advice for their chapters.

“The practice, hard work and tenacity that went into this contest was unbelievable by these talented students,” said Silliman. “They represent some of the best of our Tobin Staten Island students and St. John's University!”
