St. John’s University and the Caribbean Writers Series Present: “You’re Better Off Here”

St. John’s University and the Caribbean Writers Series present “You’re Better Off Here,” a lecture by Lisa Harewood on Monday, April 10.   Harewood, an award-winning producer, director and writer, will discuss her films as well as the process involved with creating works that appeal globally.

Lisa Harewood is a Barbadian writer, director, and producer who created the 2010 award-winning feature film A Hand Full of Dirt.  She also wrote and directed the short film Auntie, which explores migration, matriarchal kinship structures, and Bajan life.  Ms. Harewood also directed Barrel Stories, which is a transmedia oral history project that is being developed into an interactive documentary which deals with the issues of parental separation and migration. 

The event will also include a viewing of the short film “Auntie,” which was written and directed by Ms. Harewood and explores migration, matriarchal kinship structures, and Bajan life.
