Following a national search, St. John’s University has appointed Christian P. Vaupel, Ed.D., as Vice President for Advancement and University Relations.
In his new post, Dr. Vaupel oversees the Offices of Advancement (Advancement Services, Alumni Relations, Annual Campaigns, Athletic Development, Development, Donor Relations, Gift Planning, Research and Prospect Management), University Events, and University Relations (External Relations and Marketing and Communications).
“Dr. Vaupel is a seasoned higher education fundraising professional who has the experience of leading comprehensive campaigns and knows how to achieve fundraising growth and success,” said Conrado “Bobby” Gempesaw, Ph.D., President.
Dr. Vaupel brings to St. John’s his nearly two decades of experience as a leader in fund-raising and higher education administration. Prior to his appointment, he served as Vice President for University Advancement at Adelphi University in Garden City, NY. He directed 23 professionals in areas including advancement communications, services, and operations; alumni relations; annual giving; fundraising events; major and planned gifts; and prospect research
Under his direction, Adelphi raised $70 million in outright and planned gift commitments between fiscal years 2008 and 2016. He managed Adelphi’s first comprehensive campaign, securing $58.5 million in gifts and pledges from more than 16,000 donors—$2.5 million above goal. He and his team went on to complete a three-year, $15 million fundraising effort for unrestricted and scholarship funds.
“The story of St. John’s University is one where students work hard to achieve success,” stated Dr. Vaupel. “I am proud and excited to be part of the next chapter of St. John’s University and look forward to working with our students, faculty, staff, and especially our alumni, in the months and years ahead.”
