Students Attend St. Vincent de Paul Society’s National Assembly

November 18, 2016

Members of the St. John’s chapter of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) recently represented the University at the Society’s 2016 National Assembly in Columbus, Ohio.

Executive Board members participated in sessions geared toward young adults. “We had the opportunity to meet with other young Vincentians and learn about how their chapters are fulfilling the Vincentian spirit through various service activities,” said Anarita Lynch ’17C, chapter President. “Seeing the society operate on national and international levels allowed me to see the bigger picture, and realize the importance of our conference at St. John’s.”

One of the goals of the St. John’s chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society is to provide direct and indirect service along with education, prayer, and reflection. Students in the society participate in a variety of service experiences, in collaboration with the University’s Vincentian Mission Certificate program and the Long Island chapter of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

“From across the globe, it was apparent that although some of us are thousands of miles apart, we all share in the same mission of serving the poor and marginalized,” said Katherine Sheldon ’21Pharm.D. “Collaborating with others at this conference allowed me to build connections and learn a lot about how our own chapter of the SVDP Society can be brought to a new level.”
