St. John’s to Host “Meet the Candidates” Night with State and Federal Races Represented

Queens, NY (October 21, 2016) – As part of its PARTICIPATE initiative, St. John’s will host a “Meet the Candidates” Night on Monday, October 24. In advance of the general election, local candidates for state and federal offices are invited to a public forum to discuss issues of importance to college students and the local community.

24th Assembly District: David Weprin (D); Ira Harris (R)
25th Assembly District: Nily Rozic (D); Usman Ali-Chohan (R)
14th Senate District: Leroy Comrie (D); Jarret Freeman (R)
11th Senate District: Tony Avella (D); Mark Cipolla (R)


The St. John’s University PARTICIPATE program began in 2008 during the fall semester when St. John’s students became engaged in the historic 2008 presidential election. Since that time, the University has annually maintained and expanded the PARTICIPATE program, sponsoring voter registration drives, candidate forums, and other academic lectures and events that promote greater civic engagement and work to create better informed and more active voters within the University community.
