St. John’s Represented at the 72nd Annual Columbus Day Parade

October 13, 2016

In celebration of the 72nd annual New York City Columbus Day Parade, 40 St. John’s students represented the University with a decorated float in part of its Rock the Red Initiative. This marks the fifth year St. John’s has actively participated in the parade.

“We were thrilled to have had St. John’s University represented so well at this year’s Columbus Day Parade with students from both the Queens and Staten Island Campuses,” said Paul Lazauskas, Associate Director for the Office of Community Relations at St. John’s. “On the newly decorated float, the students were able to show their Italian Heritage pride as they rode down Fifth Avenue past the nearly one million spectators. It is a wonderful experience for all to be able to participate in the world’s largest celebration of Italian-American culture.”

Over 35,000 marchers, over 100 groups, and dozens of high school bands march up Fifth Avenue from 44th to 72nd street on Fifth Avenue to commemorate Christopher Columbus’s 1492 expedition to the Americas and the impact of  the Italian-American culture in the United States.
