St. John's President Addresses Queens Community Dialogue Group

Stresses Value of Unique Partnership with University

September 29, 2016

St. John’s University President, Conrado “Bobby” Gempesaw, Ph.D., was on hand to welcome St. John’s Queens Community Dialogue Group members at their first meeting to begin the new semester. The St. John’s sponsored group is made up of NYPD officials, community board members, residents, elected officials and their representatives as well as St. John’s department leaders.

When I first met with this group two years ago I was a rookie president on a listening tour to learn more about the University and our partners,” said Dr. Gempesaw. “Now, entering my third year, I am a more informed president. I understand the great value groups like our Queens community have in strengthening our partnerships which address key strategic priorities of St. John’s University.”

Joseph Sciame, V.P. for Community Relations at St. John’s, created the concept for a community forumlike this more than 18 years ago, to address concerns from neighbors and external constituents that surround university campus locations. Similar outreach has been done with St. John’s Staten Island and Manhattan community leaders to enhance partnerships and create successful outcomes.
