NY1 News Names St. John's Students Queens People of the Week

It’s incredible what a group of caring people can do when we put our heads together.
That’s what St. John’s University students, faculty, and staff accomplished for the annual St. Baldrick’s/Locks of Love event at the Queens campus on Thursday, March 20. We are proud to announce that 56 heads were shaved, 27 donors shorn hair donated to Locks of Love. Even more exciting, our volunteers raised more than $35,000.00 and still counting in support of the effort to find a cure for childhood cancer!
This year’s event was a special one. We were privileged to honor two very remarkable children—three-year-old Brian Aguilar and six-year old Joseph Maroney, who serve as ambassadors for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. These brave boys shared the stories of their personal fight against childhood cancer. Their battle continues, but they remain hopeful. Check Joseph’s and Brian’s stories online.
The day’s spirit and energy were electric. On behalf of Campus Ministry, we are all grateful for the variety of students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni who supported this amazing effort.
The day even drew the attention of WABC-TV’s Eyewitness News, who sent medical correspondent Sapna Parikh, M.D., to cover the event. WCBS-TV and the New York Daily News were both on hand, as was NY1 News, which named the St. John's students who participated as its Queens People of the Week.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation grants more financial support for childhood cancer research than any organization except the US government. The Foundation has raised more than $105 million, and we all are a part of that success!
