- Tobin College of Business Welcomes Two New Faculty Members
The Peter J. Tobin College of Business at St. John’s University is proud to announce the appointment of two distinguished scholars to its faculty: Dr. Alejandro Hernández De la Lanza and Dr. Wayne Wang. Joining the Department of Business Analytics and Information Systems, both bring cutting-edge expertise, cross-disciplinary research, and industry experience that will further elevate Tobin’s reputation as a hub for academic excellence and real-world impact.
Dr. Alejandro Hernández De la Lanza – Business Analytics and Information Systems
Dr. Hernández joins the Department of Business Analytics and Information Systems, bringing deep expertise in digital platforms, artificial intelligence, and the mobile app economy. He earned his Ph.D. in August 2025 from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
His doctoral research explored how digital platforms, developers, and users interact to shape outcomes in the mobile app ecosystem. In particular, his work examined:
• How platform-imposed updates differ from developer-driven updates.
• The impact of ad mediation systems on user engagement and retention.
By analyzing the evolving dynamics of digital platforms, Dr. Hernández provides fresh insights into the intersection of technology, innovation, and business strategy.
Dr. Wayne Wang – Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Dr. Wang joins Tobin with research interests spanning entrepreneurship, technology innovation, and neighborhood economics, with a particular emphasis on how data and advanced analytics can promote local economic development and financial inclusion.
He brings professional experience leading data science and analytics projects in both academic and industry settings, applying machine learning and big data to solve complex business and policy challenges. Dr. Wang has also advised organizations on digital transformation and technology adoption strategies.
Dr. Wang earned his doctoral degree in management from Purdue University, with training that bridges quantitative methods, computer science, and economics. His research has been published and presented widely, and he has been recognized for cross-disciplinary leadership in projects that connect teaching, research, and real-world applications.
