- Edward Caban, ’89 SVC officially named the 46th NYPD Commissioner
New York City Police Commissioner Edward Caban was sworn in on July 17th, 2023, as the first Hispanic Police Commissioner. Mr. Caban is a graduate of The Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies’ Criminal Justice program. The Bronx native rose through the NYPD ranks and has led a range of agency functions according to the strategic vision of the former Police Commissioner including policy development, personnel management, recruit and in-service training, and overall supervision of the department’s discipline system. Mr. Caban is excited to begin this new journey and was quoted in the New York Post as being “humbled” to be part of Mayor Eric Adams’ team.

CCPS’ Criminal Justice program is one of the largest majors within St. John’s University and offers internships with local, state, federal agencies, & the private sector. The program also offers concentrations in Forensic Psychology and Forensic Science. Students in this program have many options to choose from and a strong alumni network to reach out to for mentorship.
