Short-Term Programs
Students at St. John's have the opportunity to study abroad on a broad range of short-term programs, with options available for many majors at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Our winter and summer "stand-alone" faculty-directed programs are fully contained between the fall and spring academic semesters—you’ll earn academic credit in programs that range from 7 days to four weeks during the winter intersession or summer sessions.
St. John's also offers a unique range of spring and fall programs abroad that spend an academic semester in New York or online and include travel as a required component of the class before, during, or after the academic semester. These "embedded" faculty-directed programs offer St. John's students an incredible opportunity to prepare for and engage in international education through a full semester’s coursework.
St. John's Short-Term Study Abroad Programs

- Focused Coursework: Short-term programs often offer disciplines—and courses— that are not typically represented on study abroad programs, including graduate opportunities.
- Great Destinations: Based on areas of faculty expertise, our faculty-directed program locations may vary from year-to-year, but they’re always culturally and historically rich.
- Affordable Fees: Because summer and winter programs tend to be shorter in duration (typically 1-2 weeks), fees are generally lower than with other options. With our spring and fall options, you also save on tuition!
- Program fee: A program fee generally includes items such as accommodations, a meal plan, international health insurance, group transportation, and excursions. Please visit each program webpage to see what comprises each program fee – as each program will vary.
- Tuition: Tuition is separate from the program fee and students pay for the number of credits taken in addition to the program fee. For more information regarding tuition costs and policies, please visit the Student Financial Services web page.
- Airfare: Students are often responsible for flights to/from program location. Review the program webpage to see if airfare is included.

The Global Passport program offers incoming students a chance to “internationalize” their academic experience from their very first days at St. John’s, one of the few universities to have a program designed specifically for our first-year students! Through the program, students fulfill one of their core requirements in a completely innovative & comparative way, while studying with top professors who will incorporate the historic and cultural treasures of Rome, Paris and New York into their courses in order to bring the curriculum alive. The semester in New York is followed by one week at either our Paris or Rome locations.
Best of all, St. John's wants this opportunity to be affordable to all new freshmen and transfer students in their first year. We subsidize the Global Passport program to keep the student program fee at just $750, plus the cost of round-trip airfare.

St. John's campuses in Paris and Rome welcome students every summer for Summer Session I and II. These 4-week sessions are an excellent time to fit a longer-term study abroad program into your degree, with options for language, core and major-specific options, and the ability to do two sessions back-to-back. Students may also enroll in an academic internship and gain global work experience.
Best of all, the programs are affordably packaged as a single program fee of $7500, including 3-credits of tuition, housing on campus in Europe, the summer meal plan, international health insurance, and weekly activities to connect you to Paris and beyond.

Every summer and fall, PharmD students are eligible to participate in rotations in Guatemala as part of their final requirements toward their degree. Currently, programs are offered in Clarendon, Jamaica; Nueva Santa Rosa, Guatemala; and Antigua, Guatemala. Interested participants should plan to attend the CPHS Rotation Fair which takes place annually in late January.
