- Non Public School Leaders Program
In collaboration with the New York City Department of Education Office of Nonpublic Schools, the Non-Public School Leaders Program (NPSLP) at St. John’s University offers graduate courses in administration and supervision for talented nonpublic school teachers who are aspiring to become principals, as well as current principals wishing to enroll in courses in order to acquire the necessary credits for New York State certification as a School Building Leader. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Title IIA Professional Development Program provides assistance for this initiative. This grant-funded opportunity covers all coursework and textbooks.
While a student can enter the NPSL program as a non-matriculated student seeking professional development related to School Building Leadership, the program also allows students to enroll in either a Master of Education in School Building Leadership (34 credits) or Advanced Certificate in School Building Leadership (22 credits). All courses and programs are offered through an asynchronous online format. Students may take no more than two courses each semester.
While this program allows students to prepare for NYSED School Building Leadership certification, the NPSLP also provides students the opportunity to complete 12 credits of professional development following their initial degree (MSEd SBL or ADV CERT SBL).
