Continuing Education for Pharmacists

The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at St. John’s University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Our programs are intended to support the continuing development of pharmacists to maintain and enhance their competence with relevant, evidence based, and cutting-edge programs. 

We co-sponsor programs with hospitals, community pharmacies and industry partners and provide and support Continuous Pharmacy Education (CPE) activities to meet the knowledge-, application- and/or practice-based educational needs of pharmacists.

Teaching and Learning Certificate Program For Pharmacy Residents and Fellows 2026-2027

Program Description

The Teaching Certificate Program is  a 9 session synchronous course that meets monthly, offering a total of 18 hours of continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit. This longitudinal professional development series is designed to equip pharmacy residents and fellows with foundational skills in teaching, precepting, and educational scholarship. This program is ideal for those interested in academic pharmacy, clinical education, or enhancing their instructional abilities in practice-based settings. 

Over the course of nine sessions, participants will engage in interactive workshops covering essential topics such as instructional design, adult learning theory, experiential teaching, and assessment strategies. Each session includes hands-on learning activities and practical assignments that promote reflection, collaboration, and skill development. 

 

Participants will also develop a personal teaching philosophy, design instructional materials, and receive feedback on their teaching through peer and facilitator evaluations.
