The 3MT is an exciting annual competition for graduate students to showcase their communication skills and present their research to a general audience. It helps students condense their data and focus on important aspects of their research without much deviation.

Eligibility

Doctor of Philosophy students must have passed the comprehensive exams.
Master of Sciences students must be at least in the 2nd year and must have started their research work under adviser's guidance.

Rules

Competitors are limited to a single, static PowerPoint slide. No animations of any kind will be allowed.
No sounds or other media files
No laboratory equipment or models
Students will be judged by eminent scientists in academia and industry
Deadline to register as a presenter is April 5, 2024

Judging Criteria

Comprehension and Content

Understand the background and significance to the research question being addressed.
Explain terminology and avoid jargon.
Be clear in describing the impact and/or results of the research, including conclusions and outcomes.
Your presentation must have a clear and logical sequence.
Adequate time must be spent on each element of the presentation. Are you covering your points too quickly? Are you stretching a particular topic?

Engagement and Communication

Competitors must demonstrate elegant oratory skills.
Hold the audience's attention.
Sufficient stage presence, eye contact, and vocal range must be exhibited. Maintain a steady pace and have a confident stance.
Express enthusiasm for your work.
Avoid trivialization and generalization.
Your PowerPoint slide must be clear, legible, and concise.
