The 3MT is an exciting annual competition for graduate students to showcase their communication skills and present their research to a general audience. It helps students condense their data and focus on important aspects of their research without much deviation.

3-Minute Thesis (3MT)

Time: 4:30pm-6:00pm
Eligibility
- Doctor of Philosophy students must have passed the comprehensive exams.
- Master of Sciences students must be at least in the 2nd year and must have started their research work under adviser's guidance.
Rules
- Competitors are limited to a single, static PowerPoint slide. No animations of any kind will be allowed.
- No sounds or other media files
- No laboratory equipment or models
- Students will be judged by eminent scientists in academia and industry
- Deadline to register as a presenter is April 5, 2024
Judging Criteria
Comprehension and Content
- Understand the background and significance to the research question being addressed.
- Explain terminology and avoid jargon.
- Be clear in describing the impact and/or results of the research, including conclusions and outcomes.
- Your presentation must have a clear and logical sequence.
- Adequate time must be spent on each element of the presentation. Are you covering your points too quickly? Are you stretching a particular topic?
Engagement and Communication
- Competitors must demonstrate elegant oratory skills.
- Hold the audience's attention.
- Sufficient stage presence, eye contact, and vocal range must be exhibited. Maintain a steady pace and have a confident stance.
- Express enthusiasm for your work.
- Avoid trivialization and generalization.
- Your PowerPoint slide must be clear, legible, and concise.
