New Jersey Alumni Barbecue a Success

A summer heat wave did not deter St. John’s alumni and friends from gathering for an old-fashioned barbecue at the Spring Lake, NJ, home of Kevin Reed ’75C and his wife, JoAnn, on Saturday, July 20.

Held for the second consecutive year, the festivities began with a warm welcome from Mr. Reed; a benediction offered by Rev. Bernard M. Tracey, C.M. ’70C, Executive Vice President for Mission; and an athletics update by Dave Masur ’03Ed.D., Head Coach of men’s soccer. Norean R. Sharpe, Ph.D., Dean and Joseph H. and Maria C. Schwartz Distinguished Chair, The Peter J. Tobin College of Business, and Jeffrey W. Fagen, Ph.D., Dean, St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, gave brief academic updates.

The event also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, complete with desserts and decorated cookies marking the occasion. With slightly more than 100 attendees from both near and far—double last year’s attendance—the barbecue was considered to be a huge success.
