The St. John’s Law community mourns the loss of third-year evening student David Ferraro, who died in an accident this past weekend while traveling from his home in Brooklyn to the Law school.
“This is a terrible loss for David’s family and friends, and for all of us at the Law School,” says Dean Michael A. Simons. “For many of David’s classmates and fellow students, it’s also a very personal loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with David’s family during this difficult time.”
The Law School made support services available for students over the weekend, and will continue to provide them in the days and weeks ahead. Students are encouraged to reach out to the Dean’s Office or to the Law School Chaplain, Fr. John Gouldrick, with any questions or concerns.
A wake for David will be held at Miraglia Funeral Chapel, 8519 New Utrecht Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11214, on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, 4–9 p.m. and Thursday, May 9, 2019, 2–4 p.m. and 7–9 p.m.
The funeral mass will take place on Friday, May 10, 2019, 10:30 a.m. at the Shrine Church of St. Bernadette, 8201 13th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11228.
In lieu of flowers, David’s family has asked that donations be made to the David Ferraro Scholarship Fund at St. John’s Law. Donations may be made online at lawgiving.stjohns.edu (in the Designation menu click on David Ferraro Memorial Scholarship Fund), or by check mailed to St. John's School of Law, Office of Development and Alumni Relations, 8000 Utopia Parkway, Room 3-06, Queens, NY 11439 (indicate “David Ferraro Scholarship Fund” in the memo section). You may also call the Development Office at 718-990-5792.
May David rest in peace, and may his family and friends find comfort in the coming days.
