Downfall of Football in Italy: Graduate Student Produces Documentary

Within an independent study project, Evan Gardner, graduate student in International Communication, directed and produced a video documentary during a trip to Rome, exploring the question: what economic and psychological impact does football have in Italy? For the first time since 1958, the Italian national team has not qualified for the world cup. Prior to the world cup, the president of the Italian Football Association had said that not qualifying would be "an apocalypse". What does this downfall of a game mean for Italy, a country that strongly identifies through football? What does the game of football in general mean to Italians?
