Scope

This policy applies to all University faculty, staff, administrators, and students.

Policy

Members of the University community shall immediately report to law enforcement and the Department of Public Safety any criminal acts and attempted criminal acts that are committed in whole or in part because of a belief or perception regarding the race, color, national origin, ancestry, gender, gender identity or expression, religion, religious practice, age, disability, or sexual orientation of a person.

To the greatest extent possible, the Executive Director for Public Safety and Risk Management shall assist law enforcement in the investigation and prosecution of a hate crime committed by or against, or reported or witnessed by, a member of the University community.

A member of the University community who commits a hate crime and/or interferes with the investigation and/or prosecution of a hate crime shall be subject to disciplinary action up to and including separation from the University.
