Federal Immigration Law requires the University to verify the identity and employment eligibility of every new employee hired and compensated by the University. Newly hired employees must complete and sign Section 1 of the Employment Eligibility Form I-9 no later than the first day of employment. Section 2 must be completed within three business days of the employee’s first day of employment.

New employees will receive a link to the Form I-9 and Instructions in a welcome email from the Office of Human Resources. When a new employee reports to the Office of Human Resources for employment processing, a Human Resources representative will verify and photocopy the required identification and sign the Form I-9. Any questions regarding this policy, visa application or sponsorship should be directed to Equal Opportunity and Compliance at extension 1400 or (718) 990-1400.

Acceptable Documents

For verification purposes, acceptable documents are those that establish identity and employment authorization, and are unexpired. Column A lists those documents that establish both identity and employment authorization and, therefore, one document alone is sufficient for verification. Columns B and C each list those documents that establish either identity or employment authorization and, therefore, one document from each column is required for verification. For the complete list of acceptable documents, refer to the link on the US Citizenship and Immigration Services website: Acceptable Documents.
