Learn more about Blockchain and how it remains a popular topic for digital transformation and innovation at a special Zoom presentation on Thursday, March 11th at 12:30 p.m. EST.
The discussion will be hosted by Juho Lindman, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Informatics, Department of Applied Information Technology, University of Gothenburg (Sweden), and Director of the university’s Blockchain Lab. Faculty from the graduate program in Cyber and Information Security in The Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies will also facilitate discussion.
Dr. Lindman will focus on how blockchain demonstrates disruptive potential through proven use cases. Despite strong interest and greater awareness, blockchain has had minimal impact on the public sector, where few projects have moved beyond small pilots. At the same time, there is a growing skepticism and cynicism about public sector blockchain.
His presentation includes discussion of a 2020 report issued by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development that seeks to understand why this is happening by analyzing the latest research in the area and identifying and analyzing government experiences with successful and unsuccessful projects. The report provides early findings on beliefs, characteristics, and practices related to government blockchain projects and the organizations that seek to implement them, with a focus on factors contributing to their success or nonsuccess. Although blockchain has yet to affect government in the ways that early hype predicted, government decision makers will nonetheless need to understand and monitor this emerging technology.
