Crystal Benavides

Crystal Benavides is from Long Island, New York, and chose to attend St. John's University because she wanted to experience city life but within a campus-like environment. She is enrolled in the 5-year BSED/MSED Childhood Education program, meaning that after her graduation, Crystal will have graduated not only with a Bachelor's degree but with a master's in childhood education as well. Crystal hopes to become an Elementary school teacher, who can integrate the arts into all aspects of the school system.

After completing her junior year, she realizes that there are many reasons why she is glad she decided to make St. John's home away from home. The University allows Crystal to participate in giving back to the community which is her favorite pastime. Crystal is a key member of Autism Speaks, Girls on the Run, Give Kids the World, and Best Buddies. She is also a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Panhellenic Sorority on campus. In attending St John's, Crystal has opened many doors to various long-lasting friendships and relationships which she is sure she will take with her after graduation.

She works for the Division of Student Affairs on the Queens, NY, campus. This role has allowed her to expand her knowledge of not only the school, but its faculty, students, and alumni.

During her free time, Crystal enjoys painting. “Art is a form of expressing yourself in a way that only its creator knows what it means,” she said.
