Insurance Leader of the Year

Hosted by the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science and established in 1995, the “Insurance Leader of the Year Award” has annually recognized the contributions of outstanding individuals whose leadership in the worldwide insurance and financial services industry set them apart from their peers. Proceeds of this event directly support Greenberg School programs and students.

The Award Selection Committee is chaired by Cynthia R. Shoss, Partner, former Co-Chair of Global Board and former Co-Head of Global Insurance Group, Eversheds Sutherland (US) LLP, and included Robert P. Hartwig, Ph.D., Clinical Associate Professor of Finance and Director – Risk and Uncertainty Management Center, Darla Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina; the late Kevin H. Kelley, former CEO of Ironshore, Vice Chairman of Global Risk Solutions at Liberty Mutual and Chairman, IQUW Holdings; Joseph Mauriello, Retired Deputy Chairman and COO of KPMG LLP; Michael J. Morrissey, Chairman of the Board, Protective Life Corporation; Patrick J. Shouvlin, Retired Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP; and both Brandon Sweitzer, Dean Emeritus, and Ellen Thrower, Ph.D., Professor Emerita and Retired Executive Director, of the St. John's University’s Greenberg School.

Chuck Davis
Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer
Stone Point Capital

Chuck Davis is a founder, the Chairman, and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Stone Point Capital, a financial services focused investment firm with over $50 billion in assets under management. The firm manages a series of private equity funds – the Trident Funds – and also manages credit funds through Stone Point Credit. In addition, Stone Point Capital Markets supports portfolio companies and third-party clients by providing dedicated financing solutions, and Stone Point Insurance Solutions works with insurance companies and distributors to develop access to alternative capital.

Before joining Stone Point in 1998, Chuck was with Goldman Sachs & Co. for 23 years where he served as Head of Investment Banking Services worldwide, Co‐Head of the Americas Group, Head of the Financial Services Industry Group, a member of the International Executive Committee and a General Partner.

Chuck is a director of AXIS Capital and The Progressive Corporation. He was Vice Chairman and a director of Marsh & McLennan Companies from 2000-2004 and served on the board of USLIFE Corporation from 1991-1997. Chuck has served on numerous other public boards including as Chairman of The Hershey Company.

Chuck also serves on the board of directors of current portfolio companies of the Trident Funds.  Under Chuck’s leadership, Stone Point has been a founding or meaningful investor in several leading insurance companies, including AXIS Capital, Wilton Re, PURE, PARIS RE, Harbor Point, Private Client Select, James River, AmTrust, and Enstar.  In addition, Stone Point has been a longstanding investor in several leading insurance brokerage firms, including ARC, Galway, Higginbotham, Alliant, CRC Group, and Ardonagh. Stone Point has also invested in a number of insurance service companies, including Sedgwick, Enlyte, Safe-Guard, Allied Benefit Systems, The Difference Card, Clearpoint Health, SunFire, Compsych, Vertafore, and Applied Systems.

Chuck was born and raised in Burlington, Vermont and attended the University of Vermont (“UVM”) where he was an All-Conference athlete in two sports and an inductee in the UVM Athletic Hall of Fame.  After graduating, Chuck continued to support UVM by spearheading the development of the Dudley H. Davis Center for student life and serving as a trustee of the university from 1996-2002.

Chuck is involved in a variety of philanthropic activities. He is a Founder and Co‐Chairman of the Fibrolamellar Cancer Foundation. Chuck also served on the Board of Overseers for the Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science, St. Michael’s College and The Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich, CT.  Chuck is a frequent guest lecturer at several institutions, including Columbia, New York University, Harvard, the College of Charleston, St. John's, Middlebury, University of Vermont and Southern Methodist University.
