Insurance Leader of the Year (ILOTY) Fellowship
The Insurance Leader of the Year (ILOTY) Fellowship is one of the Greenberg School's premier graduate fellowship opportunities. Designed for outstanding students pursuing an M.S. in Risk Management and Risk Analytics or an M.S. in Enterprise Risk Management, the fellowship combines full tuition support with professional development, global learning, and meaningful industry connections.
ILOTY Fellows receive a comprehensive package designed to support both their academic and professional success, including:
- Full tuition scholarship
- Funding for an elective international insurance markets study abroad course, including travel outside the United States
- Access to networking opportunities with industry executives
- Professional development throughout the academic year
- Participation in Greenberg School signature events, including the Insurance Leader of the Year program
- Career and internship support through the Ellen Thrower Center for Apprenticeship & Career Services
ILOTY Fellowship FAQs
The ILOTY Fellowship is available to outstanding applicants admitted to one of the following Greenberg School graduate programs:
- M.S. in Risk Management and Risk Analytics
- M.S. in Enterprise Risk Management
You do not need an undergraduate degree in insurance or risk management to apply. Students from all undergraduate majors are encouraged to pursue the fellowship, and previous Fellows have come from diverse academic backgrounds including economics, political science, environmental studies, English, art history, and more.
Students must first be admitted to an eligible Greenberg School graduate program. Once admitted, students may apply for consideration for an ILOTY Fellowship through their admission portal.
ILOTY Fellows benefit from the Greenberg School's strong employer network and dedicated career support through the Ellen Thrower Center for Apprenticeship & Career Services.
Students are encouraged to pursue meaningful internships or multi-semester apprenticeships in the New York insurance industry while earning their degree. The Ellen Thrower Center works with students to help prepare for and pursue these opportunities, allowing them to complement their academic studies with real-world industry experience and professional connections.

Zurich Fellows Scholarship
The Zurich Fellows Scholarship, funded by Zurich North America, supports graduate students preparing for careers in insurance while helping advance the development of diverse talent across the industry.
Selected Fellows receive scholarships of up to $10,000 to support graduate study at St. John’s University’s Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science. Up to seven fellowships are awarded annually, making this a selective opportunity for students ready to build their future in the insurance industry.

No. Previous insurance experience or an undergraduate degree in insurance is not required. The scholarship welcomes students from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds who are pursuing or planning to pursue a career in the insurance industry.
Students must be admitted to one of the following Greenberg School graduate programs:

- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) M.B.A.
