Hosted by the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science and established in 1995, the “Insurance Leader of the Year Award” has annually recognized the contributions of outstanding individuals whose leadership in the worldwide insurance and financial services industry set them apart from their peers. Proceeds of this event directly support Greenberg School programs and students.

M. Steven DeCarlo
Executive Chair, Amwins Group, Inc.
M. Steven DeCarlo serves as executive chair of Amwins Group, Inc. Previously, he served as chief executive officer of Amwins for 17 years, leading the business through the merger of several specialty wholesalers. He has served on the Amwins Board of Directors since he joined the company in December 2000.
Steve began his career with Crum & Forster and later joined The London Agency (today part of Chubb) as its chief financial officer. DeCarlo was a founding partner of Royal Specialty Underwriting (RSUI), serving as executive vice president and chief financial officer, later becoming senior vice president of what was then RSUI’s parent company, Royal & SunAlliance USA.
Steve remains active in the insurance industry, while continuing to serve on a number of business and charitable boards.
He was inducted into Insurance Business America magazine’s Hall of Fame and was a Gala Honoree of the Spencer Foundation of NY. The National Insurance Industry Council recognized Steve as its Spirit of Life honoree for his efforts to raise money for the City of Hope to support research for treating life-threatening diseases. Most recently, he was honored during the 29th Annual Ronald McDonald House New York Gala and earned an Icon Leadership Award at Georgia State University’s Riskies Awards.
A 1980 East Tennessee State University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, he serves as a member of his alma mater’s Board of Trustees.
Steve and his wife, Lee Ann, reside in Charlotte, N.C., and are the parents of three children, Jenna, Nick, and Reid. Steve and Lee Ann are also proud grandparents of their grandson, Jack.
