Major Gifts Provide Funds to Ensure Student Success
St. John’s University has received more than $5.5 million in gifts and commitments to date as part of three major initiatives established to strengthen the learning environment on campus and fund new endowed student scholarships.
CIT Honors Alum Peter J. Tobin through Scholarship at Tobin College of Business
On April 17, 2017, the Board of Directors of the financial holding company CIT announced a $30,000 scholarship gift to St. John’s University in the name of outgoing and long-serving CIT Board of Director Peter J. Tobin ’65CBA, ’96HON.
Milestone Year for St. John’s Relay For Life®
A record 1,962 students joined in solidarity at the Queens campus on April 21 to raise more than $137,200 for the fight against cancer at St. John’s 12th Annual Relay For Life®—bringing the total raised by the University’s students since 2006 to more than $1 million.
Ph.D. Student Lands Research Grant for “Tutoring While Latina”
The International Writing Centers Association (IWCA) has awarded SJU student Nancy Alvarez ‘18Ph.D. with the Winter 2017 Ben Rafoth Graduate Research Grant for her dissertation project, “Tutoring While Latina: Making Space for Nuestras Voces in the Writing Center.”
Bridging Gaps To Live Your Faith
St. John’s University’s Campus Ministry and Office of Multicultural Affairs, and the Vincentian Mission Institute’s Cohort IV, cosponsored the Inaugural Interfaith Dialogue and Dinner on March 28 in Taffner Field House. The evening’s theme, “Bridging Gaps to Live Your Faith in the American Culture,” focused on St. Vincent de Paul’s question, “What must be done?”
