Faculty from the Cyber Security Systems program in The Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies will host distinguished quantum researcher Walter O. Krawec, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Connecticut, on Monday, April 12, at 1:50 p.m. during Common Hour. The Webex presentation and discussion will focus on the basics of quantum computing and its differences with respect to classical cryptography.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Krawec to speak on quantum computing,” said Erald Troja, Ph.D., Director of the Cyber Security Systems program and Assistant Professor, Division of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Science. “Many people may be unfamiliar with the topic, so I encourage the entire St. John’s community to hear him present and learn something new.”
Dr. Krawec earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stevens Institute of Technology and an M.A. in Mathematics from SUNY Albany. His primary research interests are in quantum cryptography; he focuses on trying to understand the “gap” between classical and quantum protocols. Dr. Krawec teaches a variety of courses, including Quantum Computing, Cryptography, and Introduction to Computer Security.
