Leadership and Development

First-Generation Fellowship

The First-Generation Fellowship (FGF) community gathers students that identify as first-generation college students, the first in their families to pursue a higher education degree. Students celebrate, reflect and pray together in their shared identity. The program content is varied from listening to speakers and experts in higher learning to team building activity onto movie nights and other recreation. The development and purpose of the community is to empower, embolden and support these students in successfully attaining their degrees.

Discernment Group

You are not alone; there are others among you who may feel a call to explore the possibility of becoming a Catholic priest, sister, brother, or an ordained minister in your own denomination. It is an important decision. This group meets monthly and serves as a means of mutual support for any and all people who journey through the discernment process.

Student Ministry Formation

Student Ministry Formation trainings offer students with previous ministry experience in their high schools or parishes, as well as those students seeking to learn more about St. John’s ministry, an opportunity to prepare and participate in service to the St. John’s faith community. Throughout the fall and spring semester, students train and actively participate in hands-on ministry as lectors, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, altar servers, retreat leaders and on the Interfaith Council. This formation program recognizes our Vincentian mandate, "God has sent me to preach the good news to the poor." This invitation is open to all those seeking to deepen their understanding of themselves as being sent out on mission into life.
