Division/Department Information 

The Department of Administrative and Instructional Leadership (DAIL) in The School of Education at St. John's University invites applicants to apply to be a full-time contract faculty member. This position is yearly renewable with a primary focus on teaching and service in the fields of educational and instructional leadership. Duties associated with this position include: 1) teaching graduate courses across DAIL programs with a focus on the advanced certificate programs in district and school building leadership, 2) advising and mentoring aspiring school leaders, 3) engaging with local school communities to forge partnerships with DAIL, and 4) serving on program, department, school, and university committees, when appropriate. Faculty are expected to teach at all NY locations and online. 

Qualifications 

Ideal applicants will have earned a doctoral degree in educational leadership or a related field. They will have a minimum of five years of experience at the district leadership level and experience teaching at the graduate level.  

Candidates will have a proven track-record of being a change agent in K-12 schools and will have the following responsibilities:  

  • Teach and coordinate our school leadership courses via in-person, online, and hybrid settings 
  • Cultivate and manage district partnerships 
  • Advise and mentor District and School Building Leader certification students 
  • Review and revise program curriculum 
  • Interact with State Department of Education regarding certification policy

Division/Department Information

The Counselor Education department within the School of Education at St. John’s University is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor, to begin fall of 2024. The School of Education offers doctoral degree (i.e., Ed.D. and Ph.D.) programs and 43 master’s degree programs that accommodate career changers, field changers, and those who seek expertise and/or certification in the areas of Adolescent Education, Childhood Education, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Early Childhood Education, Literacy, School Building Leadership, School Counseling, Special Education, and TESOL. Our programs are designed to be flexible, with online and traditional schedules.

The Counselor Education department currently offers three MSEd. programs, in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC), School Counseling (SCH), and School Counseling with Bilingual Extension (BIL). The department also offers two advanced certificates in SCH and CMHC. Courses are offered on our Queens campus and online during evening hours to accomadate working professionals. All master’s programs are accredited by the Council on the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP), and approved for the graduate student option by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). The MSEd in SCH and BIL meet New York state education requirements for certification as a School Counselor. The MSEd in CMHC meets New York state education requirements for the License in Mental Health Counseling (LMHC), as well as the Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Use Counselor in Training (CASAC-T). Responsibilities

The department is seeking faculty candidates who can support the growth of new and existing graduate programs within the Counselor Education department. We are seeking candidates with the ability to teach in both the Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling programs. The faculty member will have a strong Counselor identity, be familiar with CACREP standards, and have a commitment to maintaining both our Counselor identity and CACREP accreditation. Faculty should have active engagement with the profession, at either the local, state, or national level. The faculty member should have a demonstrated understanding of expanding and emerging trends in counseling, including multiculturalism and social justice, telemental health, crisis/trauma, neuroscience, and addictions, as well as advocacy for the profession, clients, and students.

Faculty member responsibilities include teaching, research/scholarship, and service. Tenure-track faculty will teach a three-three course load, with the option of teaching summer. The faculty member will teach on both the Queens campus and online. They will be required to keep office hours and attend meetings/events on campus. This is not a remote position. The faculty member will provide individualized academic advising to students. The faculty member will engage in scholarly research and publication in the field of professional Counseling. The faculty member will participate in departmental, school, and university-wide committee work, and will serve as the advisor for the Counseling honor society, Chi Sigma Iota. The faculty member will utilize technology to support our students, programs, and administration.

Qualifications

Required Education: Candidates must have an earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program; candidates with ABD status and scheduled completion by December 2024 will be considered. Candidates must have a master’s degree in a counseling specialization, such as School Counseling or Clinical Mental Health Counseling, or other CACREP specialization.

Required Counseling Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three to five years of post-masters professional counseling experience, with a preference for candidates that are fully licensed and/or certified in their field of expertise.

Required Skills and Characteristics: Public speaking and teaching; scholarly research and writing with capacity for publication; technology skills to include administrative functions (e.g. email, Microsoft office products, videoconferencing software) and teaching functions (e.g. learning management systems, interactive teaching technologies); collaborative, team-player

Preferred Qualifications: The following qualifications are preferred: School Counseling experience and/or certification; Teaching experience at the graduate level; Doctoral and Master’s degrees from CACREP accredited programs; Familiarity with CACREP accreditation; Experience with research, publication, and application for external funding; Experience with external partnerships.

The University’s School of Education was founded in 1908, as its first professional school. The school offers baccalaureate, master’s, advanced certificates, and doctoral degrees servicing the Queens, Staten Island, Long Island, and Manhattan campuses. The Department of Education Specialties offers graduate programs in Bilingual/Multicultural Education, Literacy, TESOL, and Special Education. It also offers an online Ph.D. in Literacy. 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching fully online Ph.D. Literacy doctoral courses and graduate courses in quantitative research methods; mixed methods research approaches; theory and practice of literacy instruction particularly for diverse and/or academically marginalized learners; advising students on dissertation studies that utilize quantitative or mixed methods. The position requires the candidate to have an active research agenda and conduct high-impact research. The candidate is also expected to actively participate in program development and student engagement efforts. In addition, the candidate may also teach across several online and in-person master’s and advanced certificate programs.

Non-instructional duties include student advisement, scholarship activity, university service, participation in Academic Service-Learning projects, departmental and The School of Education committee participation, and on-going program evaluation and review. Weekly on-campus office hours are required per Collaborative Bargaining Agreement.

Qualifications

The position requires an earned doctorate in reading and/or a literacy-related field (before start date) with background and experience in conducting quantitative research that includes diverse populations and teaching in culturally and linguistically diverse school settings. Expertise in quantitative and qualitative research is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a literacy background and research and/or teaching experience with linguistically and culturally diverse populations. A record of publications, presentations at scholarly meetings and professional organizations, grant writing, teaching online courses, and mentoring doctoral candidates is preferred. Familiarity and/or expertise in using Canvas is also preferred.

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is looking for candidates who are familiar with pedagogical techniques for diverse learners and professional certification requirements for teacher candidates. Qualifications

Candidates should have a terminal degree in an educational field and possess practitioner experience in early childhood, childhood and/or adolescent educational settings or similar contexts. Preference will be given to candidates who can support undergraduate teaching and provide leadership and curricular programming and are familiar with New York State teacher certification. Candidates should be familiar with technology-supported pedagogy, be able to integrate technology into teaching, and use a variety of modes (face-to-face or virtual) for instruction. Additional knowledge of diverse learners, field-based settings and pedagogical practices are welcome. Established in 1908, the St. John’s University School of Education was the second school in New York State to award graduate degrees to teachers. The School of Education fosters close relationships with public, private, and parochial schools across the New York region and is greatly respected

nationally and globally for preparing highly qualified teachers for success in today’s multicultural, inclusive learning environments. The Department of Education Specialties offers graduate programs in Special Education, Literacy and TESOL. The programs in Special Education are differentiated by age – early childhood, childhood, adolescence - and cover a range of career change, Masters, advanced certificates, and online offerings.

Responsibilities

The Programs in Special Education in the Department of Education Specialties at St. John’s University is seeking applications for an Associate or Assistant tenure track position in Special Education. Responsibilities include teaching graduate level courses in Special Education at our Queens and Staten Island campuses and online. The position requires the candidate to actively participate in student advisement, maintain an active research agenda, including seeking external grant funding, and contribute to Departmental interdisciplinary activities and initiatives. Engagement in academic service learning and field-supervision of graduate students at practicum sites across the NYC boroughs and Long Island will be expected.

Qualifications

The position requires an earned Doctorate in Special Education or related field (before start date) with a minimum 3 years of full-time teaching experience in areas of Childhood/or Adolescence Special Education for diverse students with disabilities in schools and or community/clinical settings. Prior graduate level teaching experience and research interests in the areas of assessment and literacy instruction for linguistically and culturally diverse students with high-incidence disabilities is preferred. Candidate must demonstrate strong potential for scholarly activity and research publications. Expertise/experience in building effective school partnerships/teaching residencies in high needs, urban special education settings with students and families from a range of linguistic and cultural backgrounds is valued. A strong commitment to anti-racism pedagogy and culturally responsive teaching practices is essential.

Responsibilities

The Programs in Special Education in the Department of Education Specialties at St. John’s University is seeking applications for an Assistant tenure track position in Special Education. Responsibilities include teaching graduate level courses in Special Education at our Staten Island campus and online. The position requires the candidate to actively participate in student advisement, maintain an active research agenda, including seeking external grant funding, and contribute to Departmental interdisciplinary activities and initiatives. Engagement in academic service learning and field-supervision of graduate students at practicum sites in Staten Island and other boroughs will be expected.

Qualifications

The position requires an earned Doctorate in Special Education or related field (before start date) with a minimum 3 years of full-time teaching experience in areas of Childhood/or Adolescence Special Education working with culturally diverse students with disabilities in diverse schools and or community/clinical settings. Prior graduate level teaching experience is preferred. Candidate must demonstrate strong potential for scholarly activity and research publications. Experience and/or expertise in building effective school partnerships/teaching residencies in culturally diverse high needs, urban special education settings is valued. A strong commitment to anti-racism pedagogy and culturally responsive teaching practices is essential.

Division/Department Information

The Counselor Education department within the School of Education at St. John’s University is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor, to begin fall of 2023. The School of Education offers doctoral degree (i.e., Ed.D. and Ph.D.) programs and 43 master’s degree programs that accommodate career changers, field changers, and those who seek expertise and/or certification in the areas of Adolescent Education, Childhood Education, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Early Childhood Education, Literacy, School Building Leadership, School Counseling, Special Education, and TESOL. Our programs are designed to be flexible, with online and traditional schedules.

The Counselor Education department currently offers three M.S.Ed. programs, in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC), School Counseling (SCH), and School Counseling with Bilingual Extension (BIL). The department also offers two advanced certificates in SCH and CMHC. Courses are offered on our Queens campus and online during evening hours to accommodate working processionals. All master’s programs are accredited by the Council on the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) and approved for the graduate student option by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). The MSEd in SCH and BIL meet New York state education requirements for certification as a School Counselor. The MSEd in CMHC meets New York state education requirements for the License in Mental Health Counseling (LMHC), as well as the Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Use Counselor in Training (CASAC-T). Responsibilities

The department is seeking faculty candidates who can support the growth of new and existing graduate programs within the Counselor Education department. We are seeking candidates with the ability to teach in both the Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling programs. The faculty member will have a strong Counselor identity, be familiar with CACREP standards, and have a commitment to maintaining both our Counselor identity and CACREP accreditation. Faculty should have active engagement with the profession, at either the local, state, or national level. The faculty member should have a demonstrated understanding of expanding and emerging trends in counseling, including multiculturalism and social justice, telemental health, crisis/trauma, neuroscience, and addictions, as well as advocacy for the profession, clients, and students.

Faculty member responsibilities include teaching, research/scholarship, and service. Tenure-track faculty will teach a three-three course load, with the option of teaching summer. The faculty member will teach on both the Queens campus and online and will be required to complete training in online instruction. They will be required to keep office hours and attend meetings/events on campus. This is not a remote position. The faculty member will provide individualized academic advising to students. The faculty member will engage in scholarly research and publication in the field of professional Counseling. The faculty member will utilize technology to support our students, programs, and administration. The faculty member will participate in departmental, school, and university-wide committee work, and will serve as the advisor for the Counseling honor society, Chi Sigma Iota. Faculty hired at the Associate Professor level may be assigned to Program Coordinator positions and administrative duties, accompanied by course reduction/stipend.

Qualifications

Required Education: Candidates must have an earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program; assistant professor candidates with ABD status and scheduled completion by December 2023 will be considered. Candidates must have a master’s degree in a counseling specialization, such as School Counseling or Clinical Mental Health Counseling, or other CACREP specialization.

Required Experience

Candidates should have a minimum of three to five years of post-masters professional counseling experience, with a preference for candidates that are fully licensed and/or certified in their field of expertise. In addition, candidates hired at the Associate Professor level must have prior experience teaching full time in graduate counselor education programs, and evidence of scholarly activities.

Required Skills and Characteristics

Public speaking and teaching; scholarly research and writing with capacity for publication; technology skills to include administrative functions (e.g. email, Microsoft office products, videoconferencing software) and teaching functions (e.g. learning management systems, interactive teaching technologies); collaborative, team-player. In addition, candidates hired at the Associate Professor level must have prior experience in CACREP accreditation procedures and demonstrated involvement in the profession.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred: School Counseling experience and/or certification; Teaching experience at the graduate level; Doctoral and Master’s degree from CACREP accredited programs; Familiarity with CACREP accreditation; Experience with research, publication, and application for external funding; Experience with external partnerships.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary ranges for the Assistant Professor $72,000 - $76,000 and Associate Professor $83,000-$92,000.  St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
