Primary Responsibilities:
Oversee event operations, including but not limited to:
- Communicating with key stakeholders such as vendors and venues
- Managing an event checklist and event timeline
- Overseeing all requests for social media/photographers/etc. at events
- Ensuring follow-up communications are in place post-events (surveys, thank you emails, Flickr photo albums, etc.)
- Follow up with contacts immediately after events and input attendance information into alumni database
- Supervise the student events team and design workflow
- Co-plan and execute large-scale events such as Homecoming (fall), 1870 Court basketball receptions (winter), Alumni Gala (spring), and additional events as assigned
- Help to coordinate the student event worker team prior to and at all events
- Manage escalated on-site issues while at events
- Schedule pre and/or post event meetings as needed
- Maintain other duties as assigned
While working office hours, the Event Operations staff member is expected to:
- Field questions from constituents (alumni, students, faculty, and staff) over the phone, via email, and in person regarding event information
- Assist with selection, supervision, training, and management of Student Assistants
- Attend weekly/bi-weekly individual meetings with immediate supervisor to discuss job-related concerns and performance.
- Attend select professional staff meetings, being on-time, prepared, and ready to contribute, as well as assisting with set-up of AV

Position Title: Graduate Assistant

The Graduate Assistant for Mission Assessment will be able to utilize research and statistical analysis skills learned through their coursework to evaluate the impact of Mission programs on the campus community and external community partners.

Primary Responsibilities:
- DATA GATHERING: Assist in the data collection and data cleaning process; assist with creating and updating resources related to data collection (e.g., evaluations and surveys); input data into various platforms (e.g., Qualtrics, GivePulse, Formstack).
- DATA ANALYSIS: Assist in the development of statistical models to evaluate the outcomes of Mission sector programs.
- REPORTING: Run data reports and audit data platforms’ usage for the Mission sector; synthesize collected survey data and present in reports (e.g, written, graphics); assist in assessing campus-wide awareness, knowledge, and usage of the GivePulse platform.
- RESEARCH & TRAINING: Support the campus community’s usage of GivePulse by facilitating trainings, workshops, and hosting Open Office Hours; assist in identifying relevant research articles and independent studies related to (but not limited to): retention and persistence, community engagement and impact on student success.
Required Qualifications:
- Candidate must have a strong interest in research related to poverty alleviation and community engagement, with an academic background in social research or data analysis (including data collection and data cleansing) preferred; familiarity with SPSS and Qualtrics strongly preferred; working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suites (Teams, Planner, Outlook, Word, Excel, Forms, etc.) and GivePulse preferred.

Description of Services Provided by the Department: The Office of Media Relations at St. John’s University works with internal and external media to inform the public of our mission, superior academics, global footprint, faculty expertise, student success, and our overall practices in a positive, consistent, and credible manner. We coordinate directly with print, internet, television, and radio journalists to assist them in producing news and feature stories and various content about the University. The staff members from the Office of Media Relations are the only people authorized to speak on behalf of the University in an official capacity.
Description of the student learning experience: The learning experience will be aligned to the student’s major. This position reports directly to the Director of Media Relations. This person should be an outgoing, energetic, and creative student who is a clear self-starter. The ideal candidate should want to develop skills and training in public relations, media relations, marketing, broadcast, or print journalism. The graduate assistant will also be able to promote events and work with the media in a fast-paced environment. The Graduate Assistant will gain a wealth of real-world experience that can be applied to the business world.

- The ideal candidate will have a passion for news and social media, and a keen awareness of what’s in the news to promote faculty expertise; skills at using all social media platforms is a must. The Office of Media Relations seeks to promote faculty expertise every week on our website.
- Writing is a significant component of this role, and attention to detail is a must. The candidate will write press releases and media alerts, and also fact-check and proofread other writing output. Knowledge of proper grammar and punctuation is a must.
- The role requires someone acutely aware of anything timely unfolding in the media; as previously mentioned, a self-starter who can pitch original story ideas to the Director of Media Relations regularly. The candidate will also be asked to develop direct relationships with reporters to pitch stories over the phone, to follow up on press releases, and media alerts.
- Because writing, proofing, and editing are required for this role, the Office of Media Relations would welcome the opportunity to see writing samples.
- Candidates will be responsible for coverage of campuswide events such as Commencement, Student Move-In Day, Student and Faculty Convocations, faculty lectures, alumni events, and more.

The Graduate Assistantship (GA) position in the Division of Student Affairs involves a wide array of tasks and responsibilities. The position offers the incumbent an opportunity to gain experience within higher education administration, facilitating student experiential, academic, developmental, and health-related needs; federal grant management, data collection and assessment; emergency response planning, strategic planning, and fiscal operations. The GA’s primary role is to assist with tasks involving research support, planning, and development.

- Staff Development, Training, and Co-Supervision
- Present and participate in professional and student staff training. Topics may include, but are not limited to, community development, diversity and inclusion, crisis management and response, student wellness, sexual assault and violence prevention, bystander intervention, and conflict resolution.
- Attend weekly one-on-one meetings with their supervisor to discuss student staff, residents, and community concerns.

Crisis Response:

Primary Responsibilities:
- In conjunction with the administrative team, assist with the planning and execution of student activities, service initiatives, professional development workshops and special events on virtual platforms.
- Ideate, design, and execute online campaigns, activations, live experiences, prerecorded shows, and workshops using various social media outlets and online platforms.
- They will actively participate in the program planning process and have the opportunity to host events that engage the broader St. John’s University community, fostering connection and school spirit across campus.
- Serve as the lead coordinator for the area’s niche programs and initiatives that enhance the student experience. Assist as a generalist and content area expert in event planning, event logistics, leadership development, marketing, and community engagement.
- Assist with the advisement and development of recognized student organizations under Student Government, Inc. Queen Campus. Specifically, aid student groups with producing virtual events and possible variations of live, in-person programs.
- Assist with the creation and execution of standardized assessment tools and models for the office that provide immediate and spontaneous feedback from students. Create detailed reports of the feedback for review.
- Assist administrative team in creating a marketing strategy and digital content for all signature programs, events, and service initiatives, leveraging the use of technology to replace traditional forms of advertising and programming.
- Plan and maintain digital initiatives and posting schedule across all online platforms including: Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Effective leadership and oral communication skills.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Flexible schedule to post content for social media platforms, engage with followers, monitor direct messages and social media tags on a daily basis.
- Experience with online platforms such as Canva, Instagram, Adobe Creative Suite, and Linktree to design, create, and manage digital content that effectively engages target audiences.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple projects and meet deadline effectively
- Ability to create various activations and content that will appeal to students, faculty and parents/families with diverse needs and interests.
- Work with various offices and individuals in developing programs and advertising for events.
- Establish and complete a minimum of 20 office hours per week including weekend and evening hours as needed.
- As assigned by supervisor, attend various Campus Life staff meetings and individual meetings with program planners.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven work experience as a content creator, social media coordinator or similar role.
- Experience in shooting and editing content in the form of videos, photos, and graphics.
- Knowledge and understanding of the most current digital marketing trends.
- Understanding of student learning theories and community develop.

After a period of orientation training (e.g.: review of American Library Association professional and research ethics; training in existing/emerging Scholarly Communication tools/patterns; training in Information ethics and Information Literacy, etc.), the University Library Graduate Assistant work will center on:
- Learning and teaching about information literacy in academic and public environments
- Researching the evolving regulations that impact scholarly publishing literacy in academic and public environments
- Exploring how AI and other emerging technologies impact information literacy across scholarly disciplines
- Engaging with the legal, technological and ethical aspects of the creation, dissemination, use and preservation of information in academic, public, governmental, and business settings.
- All GA projects offer experiences that apply Library Information Science (LIS) principles in research, data-gathering, and critical analysis of information in a complex library setting. Projects are designed to enhance the learning experience of graduate students pursuing an LIS degree.

- Working on projects associated with Library best-practices for information sharing within various sectors, including but not limited to: researching best practices for use of emerging technologies and information sharing in academic, public, governmental, and business settings; investigating barriers to access/sharing of information
Required Qualifications:

- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proven facilitation skills, with experience leading workshops and educational programming on DEIBJ topics.
- Ability to manage large-scale events from creation to evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in program development, community outreach, or civic engagement roles.
- Experience in higher education settings is a plus.
- Creativity and experience in content development and management for digital platforms, as well as knowledge of tools such as Canva, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Forms, Gamma App, and LinkedIn, are highly desirable.
