Message from the Dean

On behalf of the faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni of The Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies, please accept my sincere congratulations on the conferral of your master’s degree.

We all know this has been a semester unlike any other. Our professional, social, and family lives have been disrupted in ways that no one could have imagined, and many of you have suffered unimaginable hardships and personal loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But now is a time to celebrate, and to recognize the family, friends, faculty, and classmates who have helped guide you toward the completion of your graduate degree. As the saying goes, “no one does anything alone,” so please take time to thank those around you who helped you toward this remarkable achievement.

Many of you are worried about the future, maybe now more than ever. While the current environment may be complex and uncertain, know that whenever you begin to lose confidence in yourself, or encounter what appear to be insurmountable obstacles, think back to how you were able to earn your master’s degree even when you may have had doubts.

As a 1981 graduate of St. Vincent’s College (now CCPS), I take special pride when anyone graduates from our College. Having joined the faculty in 1989 and spent well over half my life at St. John’s, I love the University and everything that it stands for. As you join me as a fellow alumni and begin your professional life, please comport yourself with dignity, be humble and kind to others, and carry the mission of St. John’s with you wherever you go. Congratulations!
