Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships

Thank you for your interest in Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships at St. John’s University.

At St. John’s University, assistantships and fellowships are highly selective and provide experiential learning opportunities for full-time graduate students that are directly connected to their program of study. Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships are placed within specific University departments for up to 20 hours per week and receive a stipend and tuition remission. The amount of each benefit varies based on the type of position and the student's level of study.

Please note:

  • Students may not combine Assistantships or Fellowships with institutional scholarships, discounts, endowed scholarships, or other tuition remission.
  • Fast-track, pathway, combined degree, and 5-year program students are not eligible for Assistantships or Fellowships.
  • Assistantships and Fellowships are not guaranteed and are only available for one year at a time, with no guarantee of renewal.
  • Students in an Assistantship or Fellowship are not eligible for on-campus employment.
  • Students enrolled in Advanced Certificate and online programs are not eligible for Assistantships and Fellowships.

Assistantships and Fellowships for the 2026-2027 academic year are still under review.  Newly admitted students may apply by logging into their applicant portal  and submitting the Assistantships and Fellowships Application upon acceptance for the Fall 2026 entry term.  Current students may also apply by logging into their admission portal and completing the application. As Assistantships and Fellowships are approved, students will be contacted directly by individual departments regarding next steps and potential interviews.
