St. John’s students enjoy a break while working on a home for All Hands and Hearts–Smart Response 1600x900

Vincentian Service Immersion

Plunges, or service immersion, are weeklong experiences where students are given the opportunity to expand learning beyond the classroom into the world by participating in service opportunities, community building, cultural immersions, and simple living. Our intentional partnerships with the Vincentian worldwide family offer participants the lived experience of the Vincentian charism, and each plunge has a specific focus to enrich participants’ understanding of social justice and spirituality. The deadline to apply is at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15! If you are selected for an interview, interviews will occur from Wednesday, October 29, to Friday, November 14. Students are allowed to attend ONE (1) Plunge per academic year.

We would also like to extend this amazing opportunity to St. John's employees who want to lead one of these immersion experiences. As a Plunge Leader, you will work alongside the IVI team and assist in the planning and organization of all aspects of an immersion trip. Most importantly, you facilitate an unforgettable experience with our students. Candidates who are eager to serve and comfortable sharing their faith will be afforded a leadership experience like no other.

As an Immersion Leader, you will:

- Conduct interviews of prospective participants with your co-leader, a Mission and Ministry representative

- Attend bi-weekly check-ins with Chiyoko Goya, Graduate Assistant for Vincentian Immersion, in the months prior to your departure

- Participate in Leader Formation Day, which will occur in August (With support from the GA for Vincentian Immersion,) Create and facilitate all team formations with your co-leader

- Direct and participate in fundraising with the team, raising money to cover the costs of participation

- Participate in all aspects of the immersion experience on site, including but not limited to:

participating in service opportunities

managing petty cash and emergency funds, utilizing the University's Concur system

supporting students

leading daily reflection

working with community partners at your location on logistics and itineraries

driving a rental vehicle during the immersion experience (prior driving background check required, contingent upon Immersion needs).

Applications are due July 14th at 11:59pm. As an Immersion Leader, IVI will cover the cost of your participation (program fee and flight). Should you be offered this role, you are responsible for coordinating dates you may be out of the office with your supervisor.

*Note: The dates listed illustrate a range of dates that encompass the plunges of that season. While not all plunges will be the duration of time listed, all plunges will occur within the timeframes listed. **These are the tentative locations for these offerings. Locations are subject to change as logistics continue to be closely evaluated.
